U‑Box vs ReloCube: how much fits in each?

By the Every Last Box teamSizes checked October 31, 2026How we measureHow we make money

ReloCube needs fewer containers than U‑Box for a 1‑bedroom to a 5‑bedroom, and the same number for a studio. Our 2‑bedroom list (73 pieces), packed in 3D the same way into both, takes 4 U‑Haul U‑Boxes against 3 U‑Pack ReloCubes.

Which to pick

Pick ReloCube if you'd rather have fewer containers to book and fill (our 2‑bedroom takes 3 U‑Pack ReloCubes against 4 U‑Haul U‑Boxes).

The details

  • On your driveway. 4 U‑Haul U‑Boxes: each stands on 8'0" × 5'0". 3 U‑Pack ReloCubes: each stands on 6'3" × 7'0". Leave room beside each for the delivery truck, and check whether your street or HOA needs a permit.
  • What they are. U‑Box: a treated-plywood box with one swing door on the end. ReloCube: a steel box with double swing doors on the end.
  • Weight. A U‑Haul U‑Box allows 2,000 lb, and a U‑Pack ReloCube allows 2,500 lb. A home with a piano, a safe or a garage full of tools can run out of weight before it runs out of space.
  • Why the counts look odd. The U‑Box is long and narrow (7'11" × 4'8" inside, 6'11½" high); the ReloCube is short and wide (5'10" × 6'10" inside, 7'9" high). A sofa, a dresser or a mattress fits each one a different way, so more cubic feet doesn't always mean more pieces in the first container. That first one takes the bulkiest pieces, so it holds fewer of them than the ones after it.
  • Small moves. Smaller steps waste less space: a U‑Box is 257 cu ft inside, a ReloCube is 309 cu ft inside.

Each container is priced on its own, so the count drives the quote. Ask each company for the delivery and pick-up fees, the price for your distance, the monthly rate if it waits in storage, and what one more container costs if you run out of space.
